Distribution of School Uniforms

Sishu Vihar Mandir is a school for the children of domestic servants from hutment around Dadar. Many a times it is very difficult for the parents to provide with basic needs such as school uniforms, books etc. To lighten the burden on the parents club distributed the school uniforms. Smile and the glow on the face of children receiving the uniforms encouraged us to do the more and enjoy the joy of giving.

Eye Camp at Wadala

EYE CAMP was conducted at Wadala in association with K. B. Bachoo Ali Charitable Trust

  • Around 100 patients were examined, treatment suggested
  • There were 9 cases of cataract out of which 6 cases have been operated successfully

Spectacles were also distributed to 20 patients

Supply and Installation of Bio Gas Generation Units

Sponsored the installation of 12 Bio Gas Generation Units in village Zharap in Kudal Taluka, Sindhudurg District.

This project fosters:-

  • Mid Day Meal for Blind Students at Ramnarain Ruia College
  • Recycling of waste material
  • Environmentally friendliness
  • Freeing of village women of the burden of collecting firewood
  • Protection their health by preventing exposure to fumes and dust
  • Having quality time for the upbringing of their children

This project was executed in collaboration with Bhagirath Gram Vikas Pratisthan (Zharap)

Our club plans to have a long term collaboration with Bhagirath Gram Vikas Pratisthan in their projects which :-

  • Enhance the spirit of self reliance in the village youth
  • Provide them with meaningful employment
  • Lessen mass migration to cities
  • Gives long term benefit to economy and society

Medical Camp at village Sonawale, Badlapur

A MEDICAL CAMP was organised at village Sonawale, Badlapur in association with Dhanavantri Hospital, Zilla Parishad Thane and Patanjali Trust

  • Around 170 patients - Young and old from the nearby villages and tribal areas (needy and economically backward) attended the camp
  • An eminent team of doctors covering a wide range of specialties like Gynaecology, Ophthalmology, ENT, Orthopedics, Cardiology, General Surgery, Pediatrics, etc. examined them
  • Thereafter medicines were distributed and necessary treatment prescribed

Supporting Bal Asha and Pragati Kendra (ongoing project)

Bal Asha is the centre for destitute children, at Mahalaxmi and Pragati Kendra, is the Institute for mentally challenged children at Matunga. Pragati Kendra provides them with the vocational skills of preparing Domestic and Sanitary products. We at Mahim club buy these products and supply them to Bal Asha for the daily needs. This is one of the novel ways to help both the institutes.

Trek for Physically Challenged individuals at Mane Ghat

Every one in this busy world needs outing, fresh air some adventure to boost up and recharge. Phoenix is NGO working towards this cause. Our club joined hands with this NGO for the trekking expedition for physically challenged to Mane Ghat and Shivneri Fort. The smile and the enthusiasm of the children gave us the divine experience.

Medical Camp at Chuim Community Centre, Khardanda

This is one of the ongoing projects very close to all the Rotarians. Chuim Community Centre caters mainly to the children of house hold servants by running the cr�che. The early age of childhood health is utmost important for the child to grow and become healthy adult. Club felt the need of providing medical help. Medical check up by an eminent team of Pediatrician, Gynecologist, ENT, and General Surgeon was arranged for the benefit of the 40 children and their parents.

MID DAY MEAL for Blind Students at Ruia College

Ruia college has actively created a separate cell to educate visually impaired. The college has necessary facilities such as special computers, Braille type writers. This has attracted many students outside Mumbai. Government also tries to help the needy blind students coming from outstations by providing hostel accommodations. Currently the canteen facility available does not fulfil the student�s daily food / nutrition requirements which are essential for the active and alert brain. Club members get satisfaction in providing the food coupons.

Donation of Maps and Educational Material � School for Deaf & Dumb, Lokmanya Tilak Municipal School, Wadala

Learning with the visual aids is always more effective and that too when the child is deaf and dumb. It really gives the hope to the parents that the child can become independent in spite of the physical deficiency. It gave immense pleasure in donating the maps to know their own country India better and providing educational material.

Imparting Computer Skills to under privileged children at St. Joseph School, Wadala

In today�s world computer literacy has lot of importance. Every child must get an opportunity to learn the computer skills irrespective what class they come from. St. Joseph School at Wadala has lot of students coming from poor families. The school authority does not have adequate funds to support the computer trainers. Club has decided to support this cause by bearing the emoluments of the computer teachers.

Assistance to CANCER PATIENTS, Bharat Seva Ashram Sangha

Poor cancer patients coming from outstation are helped by the NGO Bharat Seva Ashram Sangha by providing shelter for the patient and the relatives during the treatment. Our club has taken the initiative of supplying good quality provision to make their lives bit better.

Save Electricity mission

Rotary Club of Mumbai, Mahim has taken a mission to propagate the message 'Save Electricity' to the entire cross-section of Mumbai as this is the need of the hour.

The first step towards the cause was taken by giving 15 minutes presentation consisting of slide-show and audio-visual film on the subject 'conserve electricity' on 23rd April 2006, at District assembly in Nehru center where almost 1000 Rotarians were present in the audience.

The second step was by distributing 'Handbill' on detailed guidelines on power saving to all the clubs for further propagation. The presentation CD was also distributed to all the clubs by our District Governor.

The third step was by distributing the posters on the subject prepared by Tata Power Company and MERC, to various colleges and schools.

Dinner Meet of Rotary Club of Mumbai, Mahim
- Rtn.Tanvi Kulkarni

The Club was formed on 26th June 2002 and the members from varied professional background such as Doctors, Engineers, Consultants, Corporate Executives, Company Secretary, and Business Owners celebrated its four years of successful formation as a Social Club on 17th February 2007 at Conference Hall of Matunga Gymkhana.

The Co-ordinator for the programme Rtn.Tanvi welcomed the members , their family members and almost 30 invitees who were guest of honour for the programme. She introduced the Club's Office bearers President Rtn. Pradeep, Secretary Rtn.Vinayak and Treasurer. Rtn.Dr.Sudhir who addressed the gathering with fantastic powerpoint presentation about Rotary, Club Activities and its members.The President gave interesting information on Rotary Organization's history, formation, values, spread throughout the world, its social importance and its presence in India. Secretary Rtn.Vinayak explained beautifully the various activities the club has undertaken over the last four years which really impressed the guest and Rtn.Prakash gave a short and sweet introduction of Members and their passion for the Club's activities.

Rtn.Pradeep, President of the Club then felicitated Dr.Manda Purandare, Dr.Pradnya Gadgil and Dr.Heramb Dhayagude for their incredible contribution for the Medical Camp on 10th February, 2007 organized by the Club at Khar Danda.

Therefafter, Rtn.Prakash, Rtn.Vidya and Rtn.Dr.Snehalata answered to the queries/ questions raised by the guest and the same received overwhelming response from the audience.

The guest appreciated the work done by the club and were extremely impressed with the Members for their contribution of time for social cause and the warmth as well as the cordial relations that the Members shared in the group.

The gathering was concluded with Vote of thanks by Rtn.Prakash who also requested everyone to join for Dinner and enjoy the evening.

SENIOR CITIZENS' MUSICAL EVENTS

Rtn Uma and Rtn. Vinayak of our club had taken an initiative to organize a Senior citizens musical concert on the international senior citizens' day ie 1st October. They presented a group of Senior citizen singers, musicians, composers and entertainers. It was a very enterprising orchestra. Uma did the compeering of the event.

The group is of 16 seniors above 60 years Age. Rotary club of Mumbai Mahim took the initiative to sponsor the 1st presentation for All India Retired Persons Association celebration at Vanita Samaj, Dadar. It was a grand event enjoyed by more than 150 persons. The 2nd presentation at Saraswati High School, Naiguam was also a huge success. The group is now popular and brings a smile on senior citizens face.
Our club is proud of Uma & vinayak.

Report on Health Camp on 10th February, 2007 at Chuim Community Centre.

An enthusiastic student of MSW course, Miss. Vandana Yadav had brought the proposal to hold the health camp for the children from the creche of Chuim Community Centre. This centre is located in Khar-Danda village. The children from the creche mainly belonged to the families working as household servants. We from Rotary Club of Mumbai Mahim happily decided to hold the health camp. Dr. Mrs. Dhayagnde & Mr. Sahasrabudhe met the Director of the centre Isabelle Rodrigues about two weeks before the camp & gave the instructions for the arrangement to examine the children, their mothers & fathers. Director Isabelle Rodrigues & Co-ordinator Vidya Patil & Vandana Yadav made perfect arrangements for the 10th of February. At 8.30 in the morning of the 10th Feb, our President Mr. Dixit, the team of Doctors, our Secretary and Treasurer reached the centre. After the welcome address and prayer the team of doctors started the health check up camp. Dr. Pradnya Kale examined about 55 kids, Dr. Manda Purandare & Dr. Suparna examined about 40 women, Dr. Sudhir Joshi ENT surgeon examined about 25 patients & Dr. Dhayagude surgeon examined about 25 patients.

Dr. Mrs. Dhayagude, Mr. Sahasrabudhe & Mrs. Sandhya Samudra co-ordinated the whole camp & distributed medicines to all patients. A team of student nurses from Bombay Hospital gave assistance to all the doctors. During the Coffee break we were served excellent snacks by the Director Isabelle Rodrigues & her team. They appreciated our sincere efforts and we have assured them our help in future.
